2-6-1. H. Poincaré à Vilhelm Bjerknes

Seriez-vous assez bon pour m’envoyer un tirage à part de votre dernier travail des Annales de Wiedemann où vous établissez à ce que je crois que la résistance d’un résonateur a une influence sur son amortissement.11endnote: 1 See Bjerknes (1892b), submitted from Christiania (later Oslo) on 2 July, 1892. Poincaré presented a resumé of this article to the Paris Academy of Sciences on 7 November, 1892 (Bjerknes, 1892a). In the latter note, Bjerknes did not mention resonator resistance, writing instead of a slight potential drop over the resonator poles, with a log measure of 0.002. Bjerknes described his result as a verification of Poincaré’s theory, even if the measurement itself was only a “gross approximation” (une approximation grossière). In Bjerknes’ response of 3 November, 1892 (§ 2-6-2), he readily followed Poincaré’s description in describing his latest results.
