7-2-55. H. Poincaré to Felix Klein, English translation
Caen, 8 December 1881
Paris, rue Gay-Lussac 66
I am infinitely grateful for your generous offer and am fully prepared to accept. I shall soon send you the letter you request; I will ask you, however, how much room you are able to devote to it in the Annalen.11endnote: 1 Klein asked Poincaré to send him an article or a letter for publication in Mathematische Annalen; see Klein to Poincaré, 4 December 1881 (§ 4-47-10). I know that your journal’s clientele is numerous, that the space you can allow each article is necessarily limited, and I would not wish to abuse your benevolence.
Once I know the length my letter may have, I will write it for you immediately.
I shall soon have the honor of sending you various notes relating to the general theory of functions, if this agrees with you.
I have recently read Schwarz’s memoir in the Monatsberichte and his proofs appeared rigorous to me.
Please accept, sir, my thanks and the expression of my great consideration,
