4-14. Georg Cantor

Born in St. Petersburg, Georg Cantor (1845–1918) studied at the Polytechnikum in Zurich, and at the University of Berlin, where he heard the lectures of Weierstrass, Kummer and Kronecker. He was recruited by the University of Halle in the late 1860s, and became an ordinary professor in 1879.
