4-21-4. Thomas Craig to H. Poincaré
Jan. 4 1884 American Journal of Mathematics

Baltimore
Dear Sir,
I should much like to be a member of the Société Mathématique de France, if that is possible. I have the greatest interest in the “Bulletin” and should much like to receive it regularly as a member of the Société. What are the regulations and conditions for membership? I am an Associate Professor of mathematics in this University, and I think that I may take the liberty of referring you to M. Hermite if you wish to learn anything more concerning my status here. If I can become a member of the Société I shall be exceedingly gratified. Will you be kind enough to let me know whether or not the thing is possible. Permit me to remind you that you have promised me an article for the American Journal of Mathematics. I await its arrival with great interest. I have just been reading two papers of yours published in the “Bulletin”, “Sur un théorème de la théorie générale des fonctions”, and “Sur les fonctions ”.11endnote: 1 Poincaré (1883b, a), présentés aux séances du 18 mai et du 20 juillet 1883 de la Société mathématique de France, respectivement. I have been much interested in both.
I remain Sir yours very sincerely,
Thomas Craig
