3-19-1. H. Poincaré à Wilhelm Julius Foerster

[Ca. 1906]11endnote: 1 The manuscript bears an annotation: “Brief des grossen Mathematikers Poincaré an Prof. W. Foerster (1906)”.

Mon cher Collègue,

J’ai bien tardé à vous remercier du magnifique volume (l’Univers et l’Humanité) que vous avez bien voulu m’envoyer.22endnote: 2 Foerster contributed to the third volume of the five-volume work edited by Hans Krämer, Weltall und Menschheit (Krämer, 1902), which was translated to French by Alfred Schalck de la Faverie. Plausibly, Foerster sent Poincaré a copy of the third volume of the French-language edition (Krämer, 1906). Foerster contributed an extended overview of the exploration of the cosmos (Foerster, 1902), featuring a short summary of G. H. Darwin’s fission theory of the origin of the Earth-Moon couple (Darwin, 1880). Je le trouve en revenant de la campagne. Je lirai avec plaisir ces pages sorties d’une plume comme la vôtre.

Votre bien dévoué Collègue,

Poincaré
