American Journal of Mathematics

Dear Monsieur Poincaré,

I hope you will excuse my long delay in acknowledging the receipt of your letter and memoir.11endnote: 1 Poincaré’s letter has not been located, but the memoir in question is “Sur les fonctions abéliennes” (Poincaré, 1886). Craig sent Poincaré a printed, signed receipt for his manuscript, dated 3 July (§ 4-22-16). I have been ill. Many thanks indeed for the memoir, it will appear in the next number of the Journal Vol. VIII No. 4. I have just finished reading the first installment of the proof.

I fear I shall not be able to do much work this summer as I am still rather unwell. When are you coming over here to visit us? I wish you would come soon. I have a room in my house which will be at your service whenever you do me the honor to visit me.

Yours sincerely,

Thomas Craig
