2-26-1. Wolcott Gibbs to H. Poincaré
Newport R.I. Nov. 5th 1891
Dear Sir,
Please accept my grateful acknowledgments for the copy of your beautiful memoir which you had the kindness to send me and which was duly received.11endnote: 1 Poincaré published two signal memoirs in 1890 (Poincaré, 1890a, b), one of which may have been delivered to Wolcott Gibbs (1822–1908), an emeritus professor of chemistry at Harvard University. The reason for this is unclear. Perhaps Poincaré meant to send his memoir not to Wolcott Gibbs, but to J. Willard Gibbs, the distinguished theoretical physicist at Yale University.
With most sincere respect I am yours
Wolcott Gibbs
