4-36-22. Giovanni Battista Guccia à H. Poincaré

Circolo Matematico di Palermo — 30, via Ruggiero Settimo, 30.
Mon cher ami,
En réponse à votre lettre du 16 courant, je vous renvoie, ci-joint, les pages 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, 52, 53 et 54 de votre Manuscrit, pour que vous puissiez remanier le texte dans le but de supprimer la figure dont il s’agit; ou bien (ce que je préférerais) pour que vous puissiez copier la figure, bien exactement et nitidement, et la faire aussi exécuter en cliché pour le compte du Cercle Mathématique par M. Hermann, à qui j’ai déjà écrit ce matin.11endnote: 1 Guccia responds to Poincaré’s missive of 16 November, 1903 (§ 4-36-21), in which he insisted on inserting two figures in his article on Analysis situs (Poincaré, 1904), and let Guccia decide on the fate of a third figure. Here Guccia expresses his preference for inclusion of the third figure, while leaving the final decision to Poincaré. In the end, Poincaré followed Guccia’s suggestion, and delivered a sketch of the figure to Hermann; see Poincaré to Guccia, ca. 21 Nov., 1903 (§ 4-36-23). Arthur Hermann (1839–1929) directed the eponymous Parisian publishing house, which produced the lithographic plates for printing from Poincaré’s sketches.
En tous les cas, veuillez me renvoyer ces 8 pages au plus vite, pour qu’il ne s’interrompe pas la composition de votre Mémoire.
Meilleures amitiés de votre tout dévoué
